Newsbusters is accusing the White House [Obama] of suborning perjury from Petraeus in the Libya debacle:
Syndicated columnist Charles Krauthammer on Tuesday said the White House used David Petraeus’s affair to get the CIA director to give testimony about the attacks on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya, that was in line with the administration’s position on the matter.
This seems rather strong especially given the quote provided [go there to read it]. It seems more like the way the White House mis-lead Cardinal Dolan in the ObamaCare debate with the fact the Church thought they would get an exemption for birth control and abortifacents. The Church did not, obviously, get the exemption they thought they would get. This seems to be the MO for the Obama Administration – tell people what they want to hear and walk away. Why Petreaus thought he’d be able to keep his job if he offered testimony beneficial to the White House is beyond me; he’s generally regarded as an honorable man – who cheated on his wife – these people when caught tend to try to make it right.
The claim by Newsbusters seems out of bounds. I don’t even see what facts Krauthammer has to back up his – lesser charge – of Petreaus expecting beneficial treatment.
What will the Democrats do with the other 54,000 people if this is true and they were ready for a full-house at Bank of America Stadium? “Democrats move Obama’s big speech from 74,000 seat outdoor stadium to 20,000 seat indoor arena.“
Almost seems like it wasn’t really going to be full.
Says Michelle – posted here at Milwaukee JS Online.
I feel connected to this President, Michelle. I too got into a prestigious ivy league university with crappy grades, a history of drug use, and no background to speak of.
Plus I got a Nobel Peace Prize for being the 10,000,000th person to click on a link that appeared in a Pop-Up window.
Give a ‘light at the end of the tunnel’ speech.
“Obama will offer some hope-and-change, there’s-light-at-the-end-of-the-tunnel, the-sun-will-come-out-tomorrow convention speech…”
This is completely out of character for 2012 Obama. He’s going to bash a ‘do-nothing’ Congress [while simultaneously praising Reid] and blame the whole thing on Bush.
Meanwhile the world economy continues to burn and he’s doing the modern version of fiddling.
Via Drudge – –
We learn from a New Mexico radio station ,via Washington CBS Local, that Obama’s superpower wish is to be able to speak any language.
The president says he would “love to be able to speak any language,” even though “it might not come in handy to rescue folks from a burning building.” Obama says he’s a “big believer in making connections with people.”
Oh – and his favorite chili is “classic red”.
Really asking the hard questions of him this time. I didn’t think it would be possible to beat 2008’s ‘What’s it going to be like to be America’s first black President?’ questions – -but you have to hand it to the media – they found a way.
At Roll Call:
Romney adviser Eric Fehrnstrom dismissed the study by the Tax Policy Center, questioning its authorship and its methodology. But the campaign didn’t release new details of Romney’s plan to defend against the analysis, suggesting instead that the study failed to properly take into account the dynamic effects on the economy from lowering tax rates.
I already pointed out the dynamic effects in my assault on Chait. Not sure why this is still up for discussion – should be pretty obvious to anyone that knows their head from their rear.
Anyways – newsflash for the Obama team: “Obama’s campaign has already launched a new ad keyed off of the report, charging that Romney would give himself a new tax cut while sticking viewers with the bill, even though Romney’s tax rate in 2010 — 14 percent — is already lower than what many in the middle class pay.” Romney’s accountants are smarter than your Congress-people. He’s always going to win. Unless, of course, you Democrats are really fascists: Don Sensing.
At Reason “Why Elizabeth Warren Wants America to Be More Like Communist China“:
On July 27, the same day Warren announced her new ad, Mr. Obama, campaigning in Virginia, said, “I think it makes sense for us to take half the savings from war and let’s use it to do some nation-building here at home. …”
There are no savings from the war to take half of. One of the few areas in which I agree with President Obama and the watermelon brigade that backs him is that both the Iraq and Afghanistan wars were not paid for as we fought them – taxes were either left as-is or cut; new loopholes added; fewer people paid them. Revenue decreased during these wars. There are no savings from the war to take half of.
While Reason’s issue with Warren is the spending model she’s identifying as ‘ideal’ my complaint is with Obama – this is one more point that makes clear that he has no understanding of the depth of the fiscal hole we were in in 2008 and how much worse it is now.
